Laddsworth supports Free Me

Free Me visited Laddsworth on Monday 12 September and did a presentation to the whole school, on what Free Me does for injured wild life. Mr Brian Maphanga, a wildlife rehabilitator, explained the importance of leaving healthy wildlife alone, but taking injured wild life to Free Me as quickly as possible. Laddsworth held a Civvies day on Friday, 9 September to raise funds for Free Me, and an amount of R2870 was raised.

Laddsworth pupils take part in Mandela MTB

Laddsworth pupils took part in the Mandela Day Marathon Events. Matthew Rawson, a Grade 1 pupil came 7th in the 21km Mountain Bike race, in the under 10 year category. James Beyrooti participated in the 10km trial ride and was placed in the top 10. Well done boys!

 

 
 
 
 
 

 

KZN Rhythmic Gymnastics Team

Ciaran Hornby, a Grade 6 pupil at Laddsworth, has been selected for the KwaZulu-Natal Rhythmic Gymnastics team, after winning a place at the regional competition held in Durban on the 27th August. Ciaran will represent KwaZulu-Natal at the National Championships in October. We wish her all the best!

Tennis Star

Mary-Lynn Cotton, a Grade 6 Pupil at Laddsworth took part in the KwaZulu-Natal Tennis Mini Series no 3 from 26-28 August 2016, which was held in Westridge Durban. Mary-Lynn won the under 12 singles and doubles categories. Well done Mary-Lynn!

Bronze Medal at Inter Provincial Gymnastics Festival

Hannah Mulder a Grade 3 pupil at Laddsworth, represented KwaZulu-Natal in the Inter Provincial Artistic Gymnastics Central Zone Festival, held in Pretoria on the 26 August 2016. Hannah competed in the under 9 Level 1 and achieved a Bronze Medal. Well done Hannah!

Martial Arts

Two Laddsworth pupils received certificates at the Kimura Shukokai International Triple “K” (Kata, Kumite and Kion) Championships held in Howick on Saturday 14 August. Tegra Kukudji, a Grade 3 pupil, competed in the 7-9 year old Yellow category; Tegra came 1st in Kata and Kumite and 3rd in Kion. Michael Finch, a Grade 6 pupil, competed in the 10-14 year old Yellow/Orange category; Michael came 1st in Kata and Kumite and 3rd in Kion. Well done!

Winterskloof Trail Run

Laddsworth pupils took part in the Winterskloof Trail Run/Walk on Sunday, 14 August. Joseph Hobden was the first Primary School Boy to finish and Sarah Anders the first Primary School girl to finish. The first high school boy and girl were both ex-Laddsworth pupils and the winning woman was also an ex-Laddsworth pupil. Laddsworth won a 2200L JoJo tank, a prize for being the school with the most scholar entries at the event. Well done to Mrs Houghting, Mr Nxumalo and all the Laddsworth family entrants and thank you to Build It for sponsoring this lovely prize. The tank was presented to the school in Assembly on Monday 22 August 2016 by Mrs Wheeler and Mrs McCloughlin from the Winterskloof Conservancy and Mr Tedder and Mr Sinclair from Hilton Build It.

SP Inter-House Athletics

Laddsworth Primary School held its Senior Primary Inter-House Track and Field Events on 18 and 19 August. The 4 houses Duiker, Kudu, Nyala and Oribi competed against each other, with Nyala coming out as the overall winner for 2016 and also won the Relay Trophy. Oribi won the Spirit Trophy. Laddsworth would like to congratulate the following pupils who broke records:
High Jump Girls Open - Megan Hudson (Kudu) – Height 1.45m
Long Jump Girls Under 9 - Keira Burton (Oribi) – Distance 3.61m
1 200m Boys Open - Scott Harvey (Kudu) – Time 3m54,25
100m Boys Open - Melo Gumbi (Nyala) – Time 12,56
Well done to all the boys and girls who competed, helped and cheered on their team mates!

Capital Climb

Amahle Mhlongo, a Grade 3 pupil at Laddsworth, took part in the SHF Capital Climb on Saturday 20 August in Pietermartizburg. Amahle completed the 5km in a time of 53minutes. Well done Amahle!

KZN Gymnast

Hannah Mulder, a Grade 3 pupil at Laddsworth, has been selected at the recent KZN qualifying competition, to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the Inter Provincial Artistic Gymnastics Central Zone Festival. Hannah will compete in the Under 9 age group, Level 1, which will be held in Pretoria on 26 and 27 August 2016.

Laddsworth pupils took part in the Ocean Invitational Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition held at St Mary’s School in Kloof on 6 August. Kendra achieved a Silver medal in Ball and Hoop routines, and Karla come 3rd with a Gold Medal in her age group. Well done girls!

Melokuhle beats 18 year old Record

Melokuhle Gumbi, a Grade 7 Pupil at Laddsworth broke the 150m record, in a time of 18,31s at the John Richard Memorial Athletics Meeting held at St Charles on Friday 12 August. This 150m record in the Open category has been standing since 1998. Melokuhle also came first in the 100m. Well done Melokuhle we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!

Maths Champs

Laddsworth sisters were awarded medals in the KZN Regional Abagility Maths Club Championship held in Kloof on Saturday, 13 August, where 250 pupils participated.
Jodi Moreno, a Grade 3 pupil was awarded the Champion of Champions trophy attaining the highest mark for her level. This is the third year running that Jodi has received this award. Jodi furthered her achievements by winning the Anzan Dictation competition across all levels in a nail biting final.
Tessa Moreno, a Grade 1 pupil was awarded a Silver medal for her level.
Both girls have also been chosen to represent KZN in the AMSASA Nationals Championship to be held in Gauteng in October.
Well done to our Abagility Mathematicians, Laddsworth is extremely proud of you!

Laddsworth Pupils earn Leaping Wolf Scouts Awards

Three Laddsworth boys earned the Leaping Wolf award at the 1st Howick Cubs and Scout Troop Annual Howick Highlander weekend, 29 – 31 July 2016. The annual Leaping Wolf presentation was done by the South African chief scouter Sibusiso Vilane. The Leaping Wolf Badge is the highest award a cub can work towards, it takes 6 months of hard work and dedication. This year there were only 15 presented in the whole of KZN.
